V Souto Correa Pre-Moot 2019 Rules

I. THE EVENT

The V Souto Correa Pre-Moot consists in a preparatory competition for teams participants of the XXVI Willem C. Vis Moot, the international commercial arbitration moot court competition. It is organized, promoted and hosted by Souto, Correa, Cesa, Lummertz & Amaral Advogados. The oral hearings shall follow the same rules regarding duration of oral presentation, arguments, questions by arbitrators and order of presentation as applicable in the XXVI Willem C. Vis Moot.

II. LANGUAGE

The V Souto Correa Pre-Moot will be conducted in English.

III. PARTICIPANTS

The participant teams in the V Souto Correa Pre-Moot may represent any law school or any other higher education institution that has law in its study program. Each law school or other institution may register one team for the Vis Moot and one team for the Vis East Moot; however, no student may participate in more than one team.

IV. VACANCIES

There will be 10 (ten) vacancies for teams to participate in the V Souto Correa Pre-Moot. Being that 3 (three) teams will participate from Rio de Janeiro and 7 (seven) teams from São Paulo

V. REGISTRATION PROCESS

The teams interested in participating in the V Souto Correa Pre-Moot should send an e-mail to premoot@soutocorrea.com.br informing:

• the University/Institution which it represents;
• the names of the team members and coaches who will be attending the event;

The Registration period opens on January 31st, 2019 and closes on February 15th, 2019, or when the organization of the V Souto Correa Pre-Moot receives the first 10 e-mails for registration, whichever occurs first.

There is no registration fee.

VI. VENUE

The V Souto Correa Pre-Moot will be hosted, simultaneously, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, at the following addresses:

Teams will not be allowed to participate via Skype or other electronical means. Therefore, all participants must be present at either of the Souto Correa offices determined above.

VII. DATES
The General Rounds will take place on March 30, 2019. The Final Rounds will take place on March 31, 2019.

a. General Rounds
Each team will argue four times in the General Rounds, two as Claimant and two as Respondent. The first General Round will take place on March 30, 2019, beginning at 8 A.M., both in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

b. Final Rounds
The Final Rounds will be composed of two semi-finals and one final. The first semi-final will be disputed by the first placed team and the fourth placed team of the general rounds. The second semi-final will be disputed by the second placed team and the third placed team of the general rounds. Both rounds will take place on March 31, 2019, in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
VIII. DETERMINATION AS TO WHICH TEAM IS CLAIMANT AND WHICH IS RESPONDENT

Determination as to which team is claimant and which is respondent. If the two teams in any of the elimination rounds, including the final round, argued against one another in the general rounds, they will argue for the opposite party in the elimination round. If they did not argue against one another in the general rounds, in the first elimination round the determination as to which team will be claimant and which will be respondent will be determined by lot. In the following round, when one of the two teams in the preceding round was claimant and the other was respondent, they will argue for the opposite party for which they argued in that preceding round. If both teams argued for the claimant or both argued for the respondent in the preceding round, the decision as to which team will be claimant and which will be respondent will be determined by lot.

IX. PRIZE
The winning team of the final round will be awarded with the prize of R$ 5.000,00 (five thousand Brazilian reais), as an encouragement of academic participation in arbitration competitions.
