Souto Correa’s Timberland area has a multidisciplinary practice that meets legal demands of a wide range of topics related to the timberland sector as a whole. We provide legal counseling in structuring investments in forests in all stages of the chain, which includes access to inputs, acquisition of seedlings, and purchase and sale of land; purchase and sale of forests and its by-products, partnerships and rural leases, forest development contracts, surface rights and mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

Professionals in our Timberland area rely on years of experience in structuring operations involving the timberland sector, including financing, securitization of real estate and agribusiness receivables, as well as in demands for the development of sustainability certifications and green products.

In addition to consultancy activities, the firm’s practice includes representation before administrative and legal agencies in disputes related to the timber and forestry segments on matters such as land regularization and detinue, labor, corporate, tax and environmental lawsuits, also working on class actions, civil and criminal investigations, proceedings, negotiations with the Public Ministry and other government agencies.

  • Legal consultancy in the renegotiation of a joint venture for the acquisition of land and forests in the State of Paraná;
  • Representation of a company specialized in the production of wood and cellulose boards in administrative proceedings challenging the lawfulness of detaching nearly 3100 acres of rural land belonging to the State of Mato Grosso do Sul from the Federal Government.
  • Representation of a corporate group in an arbitration hearing concerning a forestry investment in the State of Minas Gerais (MG) in the amount of around BRL 170 million;
  • Legal counseling to a pulp and paper industry in complying with a Term of Conduct Adjustment (TAC) concerning approximately 62 thousand acres of land in the State of Santa Catarina (SC), regarding environmental permit actions and legal reserve regularization of their own areas and their partners’ areas, besides negotiations with the State’s Public Prosecution’s Office.
