Souto Correa helps Brazilian energy association redraft bill

Souto, Correa, Cesa, Lummertz & Amaral Advogados has helped Abrace, an association of Brazil’s largest energy consumers, submit amendments to a natural gas reform bill presented by the Brazilian Energy and Mining Ministry.

Congress is debating the bill after the ministry submitted it in October. Congressman Marcus Vicente presented the most recent report on 22 November.

Souto Correa advised Abrace on its amendments to the bill as well legal risks associated with the new regulatory framework. The ministry drafted the bill and then passed it onto Abrace for its contributions, as well as several other organisations.
Brazil’s government launched the Gas para crescer initiative in 2016. The scheme intends to create a more open and decentralised natural gas market, as Petrobras drastically reduces its participation.

Abrace consists of Braskem, Vale, Votorantim, Dow Chemical, Akzo Nobel, Arcelor Mittal, and several other corporations.
