The new hires strengthen the firm’s expertise in sustainability matters

Specialist and professor in environmental law Tasso Cipriano is the newest hire of Souto Correa, a full-service office with operations in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, and Brasília. The firm also announced the arrival of André Castilho, who is also well versed in environmental and startup matters.

Tasso holds a doctorate in law from the University of Bremen (Germany) and the University of São Paulo (USP). He joins Souto Correa’s team of six lawyers in ​​the environmental and sustainability practice after working as a partner at Felsberg Advogados advising domestic and foreign clients from different sectors of the economy in both consulting and strategic litigation. He is a tenured professor at Fundação Santo André University Center (FSA) and lectures at Senac. Besides focusing on the innovation market and businesses creating a positive socio-environmental impact, Tasso will also advance the pro bono practice at Souto Correa.

André is a master’s student in law at USP and the University of Lyon II (France). He holds a double bachelor’s degree in law from both universities and a specialist’s degree in environmental law from Instituto O Direito por um Planeta Verde (IDPV). He joins Souto Correa after working in renowned law firms such as Felsberg and Machado Meyer.

According to Fabiana Figueiró, coordinator of the environmental practice at Souto Correa, the arrival of the new colleagues strengthens the firm’s expertise in legal matters involving positive environmental impacts, in tune with the growing ESG (environmental, social and governance) demand.

“Tasso and André have deep academic knowledge and extensive practical experience in subjects of great interest to the market, such as circular economy and waste management, contaminated sites, genetic resources, and greenwashing. Their arrival gives us even more breath to meet the growing demand for legal services in the environmental field, not to mention the greater interconnection with other practices such as consumer, agribusiness, regulatory and life sciences”, says Figueiró.

The practice advises on how to comply with environmental legislation and comes up with the best solutions to conflicts involving environmental matters. The team also assists clients in judicial and non-judicial proceedings, including investigations and public civil actions, negotiating settlements with public authorities, obtaining environmental permits and carrying out due diligences.
