Upcoming CGEN meeting to vote on the schedule for launching a new version of SISGEN, which will allow the registration of access to genetic heritage and associated traditional knowledge by foreign parties
At its next meeting, to be held on September 15 and 16, CGEN, the Genetic Heritage Management Council, will discuss a resolution that would bring SisGen 3.0 into operation. This version of the National System for the Management of Genetic Heritage and Associated Traditional Knowledge will allow the registration of access to genetic heritage and associated traditional knowledge by foreign parties. This has long been requested by the private sector, which has been waiting since the enactment of the Biodiversity Law (Law No. 13,123/2015) for a mechanism enabling the regularization of activities carried out while Provisional Measure No. 2,186-16 was in force, as well as the registration of activities carried out under the current legislation.
According to the resolution to be put to a vote, SisGen 3.0 would be made available for a sixty-day user familiarization period beginning on October 1st, 2026.
