Professional experience

Flavio Portinho Sirangelo began his professional career as a corporate lawyer in Porto Alegre from 1977 to 1987, mainly by counseling companies in labor law related cases. In 1985, he became a federal attorney in the Federal Attorney’s Office for Labor Relations (Ministério Público do Trabalho), after approval through a public selection process.

From 1987, he sat as Appellate Judge in the Federal Labor Court of Appeals (Porto Alegre, Brazil) for nearly 28 years, until retirement in August 2015.

He was the Court’s Chief Judge in the years 1998/1999. Judge Sirangelo was a co-founder and the first Director of the Court’s Judicial Training Center (2006/2010). He was also a Visiting Justice at the Brazilian Labor Supreme Court (“Tribunal Superior do Trabalho”), Brasília, in the years 2010/2012.

He was also a Member of the Brazilian National Judicial Conference (“Conselho Nacional de Justiça) in Brasilia in the years 2013/2015. After retirement in the judicial public service in August 2015, he resumed the law profession as an attorney and joined the offices of Souto Correa Advogados Associados in September/2016, where he works as a senior counsel.
