Professional experience

Tiago Gomes has spent more than two decades as trusted counsel to Brazilian groups and to global leaders operating in Brazil, handling everything from the structuring of their entry into the country to corporate transactions, competition matters and strategic litigation. He is known for getting deep into the client’s business and translating the complexity of Brazilian regulatory and corporate law into solutions that can actually be executed.

He leads Souto Correa’s Gaming & Betting and Sports practices. In the fixed-odds betting sector, he advises operators and B2B technology suppliers on regulation, licensing before the SPA/MF, advertising, litigation and corporate structuring under Law 14,790/2023. In sports, he works on governance and on the capitalization of football, including pioneering M&A and capital markets transactions involving Sociedades Anônimas do Futebol (football corporations, or SAFs). For a financial institution, he structured the financing and acquisition of sports broadcasting rights, the largest transaction of his career in the sector.

This sector leadership is the expression of a broader practice built over the course of his career. For more than a decade, Tiago was the reference lawyer in Brazil for a Portuguese family-owned conglomerate in the banking and financial services sector, representing the group’s interests between 2006 and 2024, the longest and most continuous engagement of his career. He was also, for years, the lawyer in Brazil for a publicly listed French multinational in the eyewear sector, for whom he conducted M&A transactions and merger filings before CADE. He took part in the legal design and structuring of the Brazilian Navy’s Submarine Development Program (PROSUB), at the time the largest contract in the global defense industry, and modeled other acquisition and financing of naval assets programs. His track record also includes advising international and domestic groups in the energy, engineering and infrastructure, geotechnics and offshore survey, financial services, industrial, salt, steel, media and hospitality sectors.

His practice brings together Corporate Law and M&A, Capital Markets, Antitrust & Competition, Infrastructure & Projects and commercial litigation and arbitration, always with the same hallmark: a business mindset, a regulatory reading of each matter, and the ability to lead, as a single point of contact, transactions that cross borders and sectors.
