Souto Correa’s practice in dispute resolution is extensive, and ranges from representing clients in national and international arbitrations, mediations, negotiations, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to preparing the best strategy to be used in each case, negotiating and drafting arbitration provisions.
The firm’s counseling covers all procedures related to arbitration disputes, such as arbitration letters, challenge and annulment of arbitral awards, and recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Our multidisciplinary team has a number of professionals with wide experience in the area, acting not only in representing and counseling clients, but also as arbitrators and mediators.
Recent Representations
- Our team secured a billion-dollar award for a consortium of property developers in an arbitration procedure regarding the building of a hydroelectric power plant;
- Representation of a leading energy company in five arbitrations filed by minority shareholders who claimed damages due to the devaluation of their shares on the stock exchange;
- Annulment of a lawsuit based on the existence of an arbitration clause, establishing precedent in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ);
- Representation of a consortium of property developers in an arbitration hearing regarding the building of the second largest hydroelectric power plant complex in Brazil and the fourth largest in the world in terms of installed capacity.

Souto Correa reinforces the arbitration team
Laura has over ten years of experience in commercial arbitration and dispute resolution. She has worked in renowned national and international law firms in Paris and Buenos Aires. In addition, she acts in arbitration entities such as the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr), where she coordinates the Investment Arbitration Study Group since 2019.

The Legal 500 - Latin America 2023
A day after the Leaders League announcement, Souto Correa was once more featured in another international ranking: The Legal 500. In total, we had 55 recommended lawyers and 15 practice areas recognized for our legal services. Special mentions for the areas of Litigation and Corporate, which moved up in position, and the areas of Hydrocarbons, Life Sciences, Media and Entertainment, and Aviation entered the ranking for the first time.

Founded in 1919, the ICC, through its International Court of Arbitration, is one of the leading dispute resolution centers worldwide. The commission comprises members of 100 countries and contributes to the drafting and revision of the ICC’s range of rules for dispute resolution.
