Our environmental and sustainability practice involves consulting services and litigation representation to ensure compliance with environmental legislation; assisting with environmental permits and due diligence; finding the best solutions to any disputes regarding the environment; defending clients’ interests in environmental administrative and legal proceedings such as civil investigations and public civil actions. We also provide services for all stages of settlement negotiations with government agencies.
Our team has solid expertise in strategic environmental issues to meet the demands of national and international clients from a wide range of economic sectors, such as retailers, financial market institutions, pesticide and electronics manufacturers, energy (photovoltaic plants, wind farms and biomass power plants), and pulp and paper industry.
Our scope of activities also includes solid waste management and implementation of reverse logistics programs, management of contaminated areas and environmental liabilities, risk prevention and management of environmental accidents, environmental permits and technical records, and exploration of forest resources, including intervention in Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs), Legal Reserves and other legally protected areas. In addition to that, we are also involved in surface and underground water resources management, mineral and energy resources exploitation and compliance with environmental conservation and sustainability practices.
- Legal counseling for a forestry company in legal and consultancy matters in cases involving waste and chemical management including due diligence, environmental licences, representation in civil investigations and compliance with environmental legislation;
- Full-service counseling to one of Latin America’s leading investment banks, including due diligence for purchase and sale contracts, review of environmental aspects of contracts, representation in civil investigations and administrative proceedings, and in operations related to its forestry assets in Brazil, which include environmental licences and the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR).
- Representation of one of the largest global e-retailers in administrative proceedings, civil investigations and negotiations with government authorities and other companies on the National Policy for Solid Waste Management (Law No. 12,305/2012);
- Legal counseling to a pulp and paper company in complying with a Term of Conduct Adjustment (TAC) regarding environmental licenses and the regularization of legal reserve of rural properties, in addition to negotiations with the Public Ministry in an area of approximately 60,000 acres.
