PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Guilherme Rizzo Amaral is one of the founding partners of Souto Correa Cesa Lummertz & Amaral Advogados. He heads the Disputes Resolution practice at the firm and has extensive experience in highly complex litigation, including class actions and arbitration. He is an ambassador to the Commission of the ICC International Court of Arbitration on the Belt and Road Initiative (China) and has been highly involved with Chinese clients and their businesses in Brazil. Visiting Scholar at Queen Mary University of London, he also holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Civil Procedural Law and has authored books and various legal articles. He has taught Civil Procedural Law at Universities and post-graduation programs. He was a member of a committee that assisted the Brazilian House of Representatives in the drafting of the bill of the new Brazilian Code of Civil Procedure. He is recommended as a prominent lawyer in Litigation and Arbitration in recognized guides such as Who’s Who Legal, LACCA, Legal 500, Chambers & Partners (Global and Latin America) and Análise Advocacia.

• Comentários às Alterações do Novo CPC. São Paulo: Revista dos Tribunais (Thomson Reuters), 2015 (2nd edition, 2016, 3rd edition 2018) 1.439p. This was one of the first published comparative studies concerning the new Brazilian Code of Civil Procedure. It is a 1.439 pages tome with commentaries on most of the 1.072 articles of the Bill, including those involving arbitration.
• Cumprimento e Execução da Sentença sob a ótica do formalismo-valorativo. Porto Alegre: Livraria do Advogado, 2008. 244p. This book consists of a PhD thesis on the enforcement of awards (judicial and arbitral) in Brazil.
• Estudos de Direito Intertemporal e Processo. 1. ed. Porto Alegre: Livraria do Advogado, 2007. 104p. This book focuses on the conflicts of laws in time, especially of procedural law.
• As Astreintes e o Processo Civil Brasileiro – Multa do art. 461 e outras. 1. ed. Porto Alegre: Livraria do Advogado, 2004. 237p. (2. ed. 2010). The book was the first in Brazil to focus exclusively on the periodical procedural fine also known as astreintes.
