Professional experience

Guilherme Rizzo Amaral holds a Ph.D. in Law from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2006) and a Master’s Degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). He was a Visiting Scholar at Queen Mary University of London and a Scholar‑in‑Residence at WilmerHale (London) in 2017 and 2025.

A founding partner of Souto Correa Advogados, he is an attorney with over 25 years of experience in dispute resolution, with a practice focused on domestic and international arbitration. He also acts as an arbitrator and is listed on the panels of arbitrators of leading Brazilian institutions, as well as of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Asia Pacific International Arbitration Chambers (APIAC), and the MCCI Arbitration & Mediation Center Database of Arbitrators (Mauritius).

From 2018 to 2022, he served as an ambassador and full member of the Arbitration Commission of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) for the Belt and Road Initiative. He is certified as a foreign law expert by Benchmark Chambers International, a non‑profit organization registered with the Shenzhen Civil Affairs Bureau and the Shenzhen Bureau of Justice, which serves as a certification base for foreign laws for the Supreme People’s Court of China.

Recognized in leading national and international rankings, he was named a Global Elite Thought Leader – Under 45 in the arbitration and commercial litigation guides of Who’s Who Legal (Lexology) in 2024.
